Within 10 minutes drive:
The surfing and sandy beach of Westward Ho! is 3 miles away. This beach can have good surf (Westward Ho !live surf cam) and is much less crowded than the further afield and more well know beaches of Croyde, Putsborough and Woolacombe which are approximately 30 mins drive away.
Bideford is an excellent centre for touring with shops, restaurants, the Kathleen and May and Burton Art Gallery. The boat to Lundy Island sails regularly from Bideford.

The South West coastal path can be accessed at Westward Ho! and various points along the coast and there are many local walks we recommend.
The Tarka Trail has 30 miles of cycling through countryside and estuary, there is an entrance half a mile from Hallsannery. If you are feeling energetic, cycle up the Torridge valley to Yarde Orchard cafe, 4 miles South of Torrington, or Fremington Quay cafe along the Taw estuary. Bike hire is available in Bideford, Torrington, Fremington, Barnstaple and Braunton.

The fishing villages of Appledore and Instow, with its safe sandy beach, are both great places for a meal or a wander.
Skern Lodge at Appledore provide a wide range of Adventure Day activities.

For bird lovers, Isley marsh RSPB reserve is at Yelland on the Taw estuary.

Within 30 minutes drive..
Great Torrington: the home of Dartington Crystal and the Royal Horticultural Society's garden at Rosemoor. Other gardens are Docton Mill, near Hartland and Marwood, north of Barnstaple.
Braunton Burrows: a six mile by two mile sand dune system, and the core of the UNESCO Biosphere reserve is 15 miles away.
Hartland Quay: spectacular cliff scenery on the wild Atlantic coast with cliff walks and a pub.

Clovelly is an attractive village with steep cobbled streets and a pub by the harbour. Access during the day is through a visitor centre where you have to pay an entrance fee. In the evening, entrance is free and  it is a great place to watch the sun go down from the harbour.

Exmoor and Dartmoor National Parks are also within easy reach.
