But NO Tortoiseshells - anyone else have experience of this?

Birdlife
This year (2009) we have had so many birds nesting successfully nesting here.
We have watched the kestrel sitting in the tree outside our own house where it has been nesting. It didn't bother with any hovering and just dived down onto our lawn to pick up a small rodent (probably a bank vole) and off it went - dinner on a plate!
